Death of a Child. Thk infant daughter (18 months old) of Mr. and Mrs. G. Attrill, of Shaunou brook was brought into town on Monday of. last ivoek', having been ill for a few .days.., Serious symptoms developed, and a roinoval was made to liilongin Hospital, where every cifre anil attention was shown. Dr. Rutherford, who had' tho casein charge, was assisted in con sultation by Drs. Corlis and Stephen, .but failed to- relieve the child, which .suffered terribly till death occurred at 8 a.m. ou Saturday. Phosphorus pois oning was hazarded a probable cause of the trouble, but that theory appears un tenable. No - post mortem was held. 'The funeral took place on Sunday after noon, when the Rev. C. F. Harper, J s.P.] T.Dowling pleaded not guilty to behaving in a riotous manlier in Casino, on Thurs day. Constable Boyd said the accused kicked a ladder from underneath a man named Williams' who was extinguishing, the l.iinp at Paulsen's hotel. P. Wil liams corroborated the constable's state ment, and admitted ho went for Dow ling when lie got up- Dow line's version was that lie just tipped the ladder with his foot as Williams' was bringing it out of the hotel,- and that two , other men were present, one named Jerry Coffey (who was called, hut-diil not appear). Jordan pleaded guilty at the Casino Police Court to a charge of bathing iu tho river, near Carrington Park bridge, on Sunday afternoon, but alleged ho wore bathing costume, and was told by .Constable Nicholls ho could bathe there.
