SEnlWSEKLV . [Newspaper Article] — True Republican — 15 December 1869

True Republican True Republican Devoted to Republican Principles and Local Interests WEDNESDAY MORNING, AT DeKALB COUNTY, ILL HENRY L. BOIES The time seems to have arrived when ihe interests of our County and especially of our thriving and rapidly growing city demand a more speedy transmission of news than is afforded by the slow lumbering county weekly; and with the purpose of supplying this demand we propose to issue--so long as it shall be found prac-ticable--an extra or supplementary num ber on Saturday of each week. This will give our readers the advantages off a semiweekly edition and if the enterprise is well sustained by the liberal patronage and enlarged subscription list which we have a right to expect we in future, when our pres- ent contracts expire shall publish the True Republican regularly as a semi-weekly paper. By our arrangment with advertising patrons we shall be able to issue more than double the amount of reading matter usually furnished by county weeklies as we...

mormon rolrgmtm ^ [Newspaper Article] — True Republican — 15 December 1869

Mormon Polygamy A FLANK MOVEMENT SUGGESTED . A bill was introduced into the United Stales Senate on the first day of its session, providing for the execution of the United States law aeainst polygamy in Utah. The Mormons are anticipating trouble , and seem to be providing in advance for the war that must necessarily result, from the direct attempt to enforce it. Our judgment is against the use of this blundering, bloody, old, barbarous method of enforcing our ideas of morality by powder and ball. If the disposal of the matter were to be left to our superior judgment, we would attack the peculiar institution by a flank movement, somewhat in this wise : We would appoint as Governor of the territory, our brother editor, Mr. Joseph Smith, of our neighboring village of Piano. Mr. Smith, as the son of the original founder of Mormonism, is the legitimate and rightful head of the Mormon Church. He is the acknowledged head of that branch of the Church, which detests and forbids the hateful p...
