The organization was com menced in 1864, but not completed until Feb. 1865. The first six companies be ing mustered in SepU 10th, 1864, and the remaining four companies Feb. 22d, 1805. It is composed principally of men from Marshall, Marion, Preston, Mott ongulia and Taylor counties. Ohio county is also pretty well represented In its ranks but not so largely as the counties named. Owing to *its Tecent organization the regiment has not par ticipated in the many important en gagements of the late campaign, but has been stationed on the border where it rendered most efficient, service in noouting and protecting the frontier from the incursions of the guerrilla hordes which infested the border coun ties of the State. Dillon sent to Lieut. Melvin Richards, of Battery D, and at that time a prisoner at Charleston, S. C., a box containing sundry articles of clothing, provisions, pens, paper, <tc.
