-4 The Alert, "DAILY AND WEEKLY MAllSHALLMcCLURE. EDITORIAL NOTES. A Washington special says: The admission of Dakota as a state is said by some to be likely to be a mere party question, and is one of the bills tho republicans desire to be enabled to force through. During the year 1881 the loss of property in Dakota, by fire, amount ed to $181,000, an increase of $78, 500 over the losses of 1880. The insurance on the property burned in 1881, amounted to $84,500. Yankton Pre*s: The two Dakota newspapers which most loudly op posed division and admission in 1879 —the Fargo Times and the Sioux Falls Independent—have both suc cumbed to financial distress and have ceased to exist. The people do not appear to have much use for newspapers of that stripe. Delegate Pettigrew is represented as expressing his belief in the pas sage of both the state and division bills, at this session of congress. Judge Kidder who is still in Wash ington helping along the scheme for the admission of Souther...
