If King Cotton is not to be speedily de throned by the folly and crime of its sup porters, Lis uncrowned rival Flax, is des tined to give Lim some very severe pokes in the ribs. Recent specimens of the flax production have been brought out which come very near the genuine article, if not h fully up to the average of cotton. Flannel, l calico, drilling aud thread have all been made or tbe new nax fibre, ana wuu a remarkable degree of perfection. New pro cesses for preparing the fire give great encouragement to those who arc embarked in the business. Mills for the manufac ture have already been erected in New York and in New England, and will soon be in operation, not only working the flax by itself into fabrics, but working it in con nection with wool and cotton.
