And now the railroad fever is among the Mormons. A company has been in croporated at Salt Lake to build a nar row gauge railway from that city to Ogden. Topeka has six printing offices, and to this number it is reported another is to be added, an out and out Democratic paper. Unless the "brethren" make lib eral donations ire feel sorry for the pub lisher. The proposed railroad from Carthage via Joplin to Baxter Springs meets with favor among-the citizens in the cities and towns interested. We will never have such dull times but what new rail roads will be talked of. A Londox dispatch announces the death of the Emperor of China. He died on the 12th inst. Josiah Copley, calling attention to same ,of the uses which the flax fiber may be applied in the manufacture or paper sacks, barrels, etc. The demand is rapidly increasing, and for many pur poses, it is considered superior to any other fiber. The demand for the oil is also increasing, and large quantities of seeds are still imported andmanufactur ed'in eastern cities. With these increas ing demands fur the seed and fibre, flax must be a paying crop ; but it may be even more valuable, v indirectly as a means of defending other crops against the depredations of the chinch bug. I believe the chinch never feeds upon flax ; and hare never known it to pas through a field or strip of flax.
